Jonathan Little Secrets – Poker Video Course Review

If you follow the World Poker Tour you’re bound to have heard of Jonathan Little. He’s won 2 WPT titles, including the Mirage Poker Showdown and the Foxwoods World Poker Finals. In addition to that he’s had 11 WSOP money finishes, and he made the final table in the 2008 World Championship of Online Poker.  His speciality is online sit and gos, and he’s sponsored as a Victory Poker Pro (along with other great players such as Antonio Esfandiari and Andrew Robl).  His live tournament winnings to date are over $4.3 million so this is a guy who knows how to play poker!  He is also the founder of the popular poker training site Float The Turn so he also knows a thing of to about coaching!

That’s why I was excited when he sent me a copy of his new video based course to review. The course, titled Jonathan Little Secrets, is a series of 9 videos in which he teaches his strategies, in a very hands on format.

In addition to the videos, he also includes MP3s of all the lessons, and 2 question and answer audios, which you can load up onto your iPod and continue your study away from the computer. (By the way, if you want you can view a video review of this course!)

Jonathan’s Little Secrets – Course Content

Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat, this course is not for the complete beginner. If you’re brand new to poker and don’t know how to play Texas Hold’em then this isn’t for you yet. Go grab a copy of Harrington on Hold’em and Super System, and then come back when you’ve read them and have a few games under your belt.

If however you already know the basics and you want to improve your game, learn to be profitable and possibly even work towards turning pro, then keep reading!

The videos are all around 40 – 50 minutes in length, with a total of 6 hours 22 minutes of solid content. Each video has Jonathan teaching his secret strategies, while actually playing multiple tables on screen. You get to “watch over his shoulder” while he’s playing, and at the same time get an insight to exactly what he’s thinking, why he making the moves he does, and what it really takes to be a winning player. This is amazing stuff, in fact I’ve never come across content like this before, and I really wish I had these videos 2 years ago!!

Watch a sample video here – 41 minutes of solid poker training!

Here’s a run down of the actual content:

Video 1 – Running time 41 minutes

This covers the basic strategy for no limit Texas Hold’em. You get to watch as Jonathan plays 4 tables at once, in 180 players SNGs, all the while teaching his methods and explaining the decisions he’s making and why.

Video 2 – Running time 41 minutes

This is a continuation of the first video, and he takes the games into the later stages. He talks about how to pick up the “dead money” on the table, and how to progress to the final table.

Video 3 - Running time 41 minutes

Now we’re into final table territory. Learn how to play the end of a tournament, how to extract the most chips from your opponents and really keep the pressure on. Again, Jonathan keeps 4 tables playing all the time while teaching.

Video 4 - Running time 46 minutes

This video shows you how to get from 16 handed, right up to heads up. He divulges many of his secrets for playing a simple yet devastatingly effective strategy for SNGs, and how you can emulate this type of success at the tables. This is one of the key videos, and studying these will make a huge difference to your game.

Video 5 – Running time 51 minutes

Now Jonathan starts going into some of the psychology of poker. Jonathan actually studied psychology at the University of West Florida, which was when he first learned poker. In fact, he built up a bankroll of over $35,000 in just 6 months using these exact methods! He also talks a lot about bankroll management, and how to adjust buyins and stakes depending on your bankroll and skill levels.

Video 6 – Running time 38 minutes

This video is all about heads-up. Heads up is probably the hardest part of any poker game, but if you want to win tournaments you need to get good at it. In fact, the difference between 1st and 2nd place is so big that becoming a solid heads-up player is essential for your success, and in this lesson Jonathan shows you his secrets for dominating your opponent.

Video 7 - Running time 34 minutes

This carries on the previous lesson, with more heads up matches and lots more of Jonathan’s secrets for being aggressive and out-playing your opponent. This one really helps you understand the mental aspect of the game, and learn how to keep pressure on your opponent, even if the cards aren’t coming your way.

Video 8 – Running time 44 minutes

Here Jonathan talks about changing gear, and how to adjust your own play based on how the rest of the table are playing. All the while we see him play heads up matches, and SNGs to keep the action going.

Video 9 – Running time 41 minutes
In this final video Jonathan shows how to play short stacked, and takes us all the way to the final table of a multi-table sit and go. At the final table he keeps being aggressive and teaches how to play the big stack.

As you can see there is a LOT of content in these videos. In fact, there’s so much content that you’ll have to watch them several times to get the most out of them. Jonathan holds nothing back, and in fact the only criticism would be that there is so much information, and so much going on at times that you really do have to concentrate.

The video and audio quality is first rate, but I would suggest that you maximise the videos to full screen and pay close attention. Occasionally it’s difficult to see which of the tables Jonathan is talking about, and you have to scan to see where his mouse pointer is. In fact, if he could have used an oversized mouse pointer that would have really helped, but apart from that the videos are amazing, both in terms of content and quality.

The Results

Well like I said, I only got the review copy of these videos last week and I’ve only had time to watch them once. However, I’ve already picked up quite a lot of pointers and have started implementing them in my own games. The last 3 days I’ve been playing single table SNGs, and by adding these strategies to my own game I’ve had ROIs for the past 3 days of 20%, 56% and 42% respectively which is better than my average. It’s early days yet, and I fully intend to watch these videos several more times, but so far the results have been spectacular!

Your own results will of course depend on your existing poker skills, and how well you study the videos, but the course is backed by a solid 60 day money back guarantee, so you really have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

As I said earlier in the review, I really wish I had these videos 2 years ago when I started taking my poker more seriously. In just a few days I feel like I’ve taken a massive step forward, and only time will tell how far I can take that this year. If you want to improve your game, and start making some real profits with poker then you really want to be studying these videos.

If you want to “try before you buy” you can watch a 41 minute sample video here.
