The image you want to portray will depend on the type of player you are, and the type of game you’re playing.
While the classic strategy is to portray a very tight or tight/aggressive image, the best plan is usually to be unpredictable. Project one image, and then play the opposite. For example – if you’re really playing tight, folding all the time and then suddenly come in and start raising, your opponents will assume you have a big hand (no matter what you really hold) and you’ll likely be able to steal some pots.
Conversely, call lots, try some bluffs and show them – and people will assume you’re a very loose player, so you’ll probably get a lot of action when you do have the nuts!
